Hot Vulcan chick won’t save third Starship Troopers flick

jolene_blalock.jpg[tag]Jolene Blalock[/tag] (right), who was the hot Vulcan in the skin-tight catsuit on Enterprise (how telling is it that I cannot even remember her character’s name) will be a lead character in the third Starship Troopers movie.

Yeah. Me too.

Anyway, this blogger is about as enthused about it as I am.

When I was growing up I read [tag]Robert Heinlein[/tag]’s [tag]Starship Troopers[/tag] novel many, many times and was pretty thrilled to actually get to work on the first movie. I was less thrilled with how it came out and the direct-to-video sequel left me even colder, with little hope for the franchise — at least in movie form. Sadly, this third go-around doesn’t do much to change my perception, even with the inclusion of Blalock. I guess we’ll find out one way or another when the film comes to the local Blockbuster later this year.

It’s going to take more than a hot Vulcan chick to get me to watch anything derived from that horrid monstrosity of a movie.

How sad to hear that they are making a third installment in movie form.
The first one utterly failed, lacking all but the smallest bit of the gestalt given it by R.A.H.

The existence of the second movie disheartened me, but this news just sickens me.

    Bad Art.

the newest installment of the starship troopers trilogy was a little disheartening and alittle under budget for my tastes. other than that the vulcan chick is pretty hot but i miss riz from the original and the main character in the second isnt that bad as well. but i have a question, why was the third movie’s mobile infantry gun so fucking huge?

The first movie was alright in a goofy and outlandish way. The second movie was garbage. I decided to give this a shot. Yeah, the fact that Jolene Blalock was in it definitely had an impact on my decision but I was also happy to see that Casper Van Dien was going to be in it. For any Starship Troopers movie to succeed I felt he was necessary.

The movie was alright but far from great. It was definitely better than the second movie but left me understanding why it was direct-to-DVD. What did surprise me was the use of Jolene Blalock. I had automatically assumed they picked her for her looks and, considering the previous roles I have seen her play other than in Enterprise, fully expected them to have a topless scene involving her or at least show her scantily clad. They didn’t do this which, honestly, impressed me. There was a scene with nudity in the movie but she was completely uninvolved. I’m glad to see that she played a completely normal role albeit in a less than great movie.

I never expect films to live up to Heinlein’s standards, but I still found the first one OK.

Marauder could have been a fine sequel, but at some point they lost track of the line between Christian satire (there’s a lot and it’s good) versus propaganda, resulting in a “Come to God” scene that I have not seen the likes of in the mainstream since the 50s version of War Of The Worlds. I find this generally unsettling, doubly so where Jolene Blalock is involved, and it does more than ever to break the story away from Heinlein’s intent.

If such things do not irritate you too badly, I would suggest seeing Marauder at least once.

she gives ample reason to at least give the movie a tryout…
