From fredericksburg.com, has a long and glowing article about RAH written by National Reviews’s John J. Miller. The article focuses on the stuff about Heinlein conservatives would like, and pretty much glosses over the stuff about Heinlein the liberals like. There’s apparently a longer article you can get if you subscribe to National Review.

Hot Vulcan chick won’t save third Starship Troopers flick
Published June 26, 2007 Movies and Television 6 Comments
[tag]Jolene Blalock[/tag] (right), who was the hot Vulcan in the skin-tight catsuit on Enterprise (how telling is it that I cannot even remember her character’s name) will be a lead character in the third Starship Troopers movie.
Yeah. Me too.
Anyway, this blogger is about as enthused about it as I am.
When I was growing up I read [tag]Robert Heinlein[/tag]’s [tag]Starship Troopers[/tag] novel many, many times and was pretty thrilled to actually get to work on the first movie. I was less thrilled with how it came out and the direct-to-video sequel left me even colder, with little hope for the franchise — at least in movie form. Sadly, this third go-around doesn’t do much to change my perception, even with the inclusion of Blalock. I guess we’ll find out one way or another when the film comes to the local Blockbuster later this year.
It’s going to take more than a hot Vulcan chick to get me to watch anything derived from that horrid monstrosity of a movie.
Blogger Dr. Helen has started an advice column on Pajamas Media. Her first post is about when she thinks every adult should be able to do. She used the famous quote from The Master:
A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.
She has a few good ideas of her own, in my humble opinion. To my embarrassment, I cannot drive a stick.
Dr. Helen also gets added to the blogroll.
Site news: Cleaning out the cobwebs, hanging out the shingle again
Published June 17, 2007 Books , Fandom 1 CommentI’ve ignored this site for far too long. I’ve deleted the spam and I’m making posts again. It’s the least I could do for The Master. And I’m gonna have to do that review of “Variable Star” I’ve been dreading.
This Star Trek casting news is Heinlein-related, I guess, since he was a fan of the show:
Things are apparently moving forward quickly with Star Trek XI — IESB.net is reporting that at the L.A. junket for Transformers, screenwriter Roberto Orci told the roundtablers to expect some major announcements (presumably about casting) at this year’s ComicCon. He said the casting process is going on right now, and that some significant decisions are going to be made soon. He also told the journalists that the film is scheduled to begin shooting in November. Up to now, there has been nothing more than educated (and uneducated) guesses about who could possibly lead this thing. Names that have been bandied about include Matt Damon, Gary Sinise, Jennifer Garner and James McAvoy, but nothing solid has developed.
